by Calvin 2 years agoAs this year comes to an end and my wife and I reviewed 2009 events, we really need to quote a scripture; Psalm 121 I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Last year Guam experienced an economic downfall which forced us to step out on faith and become more active in Guam’s business community. We have our own company but in the previous years we only targeted special business opportunities that didn’t require much work.
However due to recent worldwide events, our company Warehouse Pacific is very active in today’s market. Warehouse Pacific was challenged last year but through God’s favor and blessings we have survived and foresee/hoping for additional growth in 2010.
In addition, we do some consulting on the side under our company called Guahan Business Network.
This is due to the military expansion in the next 2-4 years (15 Billion dollar investment) and an estimate 25K - 30K more people on island.
It’s amazing to see doors open and new business relationships being established. It’s all God’s favor. Companies are stating that they like our products and personalize service. That's referring to four particular/significant companies that have sustained us in 2009.We they are looking to expand their assortment and our service in 2010.
This year, I have traveled almost every month to Philippines and Thailand working directly with manufactures and wholesalers building our own brand product called Nami Gear. We still have more of work to do in the next year to build a brand from scratch.
In addition, we are still very active in our Agel and have helped many people on Guam increase their health and supplement their income. This is another reason that we are able to travel to Thailand as the company is based in the US but the closest office for training is in Thailand. I missed the last November quarterly conference as I was in SFO. In Thailand we are 30,000 strong and one day I'm looking for my FREE!!! Come on Philippines, Let's go Diamond!!!
This picture in Thailand reminds me, I was just telling Lenette yesterday, she should work for the CIA as she speaks Tagalog, English and Japanese.
Lenette has a unique gift and ability to grasp foreign languages and recently in Thailand (Dec.) everyone we met spoke to her in Thai thinking that she was from Thailand. Now Lenette is starting to speak basic words in Thai.
My Part-time job in Thailand. The only things is I have a hard time finding customers that trust me?
I didn't last long!!!
Other non-business related challenges were family health issues. My mother-in-law had two strokes while on vacation in the Philippines and is currently recovering in the Philippines as we have no one to watch her on Guam due to our work schedule. The previous year it was my father-in-law. In the states I believe we have had some concerns as well with both dad and mom but God continues to be a healer and they are both in good health.
I was blessed to have an opportunity to visit California early November. Mostly working with my mother closing/preparation year-end accounting stuff.
This was taken after church at Jubilee. Moreover, I had a chance to see R. Kelly or the "Thunder in the Bay" I chose the Thunder and attended the night that Paula White, Michael Pitts, Joseph Garlington, and Kong Kee were speakers. I was really touched by Michael Pitts... google this guy or youtube.com.
Chet has moved to California after his assault ordeal here on Guam. He has recovered but the guys that committed the assault were freed from jail and are on parole. Basically with Guam being so small, its not safe for Chet to be on Guam. He's working with my mother in developing her company Helping Hands Home Care Services. In addition, he started his own company which deals with the Internet.
We need to acknowledge some special people that are in our lives and made a difference. It was through their support that we made it through this year; Pastor Thad & Cynthia Jones, John Antenorcruz, Chris Toran, Joe Cruz, Richelle L., Lisa G., Sheri T., Timm Taylor, Lafayette Waters, and our family.
Overall considering everything that has happened in 2009 we have been tested and at times we had doubts that we would make it and when I look back at everything we did, how we were able to travel, the new relationships that were formed, we were carried and blessed by God. Prayer does work for those that are called.
In closing, I’m reminded about a statement my father made regarding sacrifices and how they can impact future generation. Although we don’t have kids of our own, we are happy to say that some of our personal sacrifices will give birth and opportunity to a new generation. Paving the way for my brother-in-law in the Philippines to enter Guam and provide support for other family members. Maybe through our initial support we will pave the way for another lawyer, doctor, engineer, computer programmer, ect.
If anyone has suffered from this year events, hold on to the promise, the love, and sew your tears as things that you have prayed for and have yet seen are in the making.
Be Blessed Always as each of you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. We're not going to look back, but look forward 2010.
Lenette and Calvin Holloway Jr.
